April vacation.

Oh the typical Sunday night, after a few delicious days off, dread. Now that our lives are completely ruled by the elementary school calendar, days off and week vacations pop up out of nowhere. This week, you spent a few days with Grammie and Grampie where you watched Star Wars with Grampie, went for walks and threw rocks at the beach, and stuffed your face with cotton candy and popcorn at the circus. Lucky you!

On Wednesday, I started my mini vacation with you and was delighted to have a lovely April spring day to figure out what to do.  We started the day at a favorite breakfast spot, then wondered, what to do, what to do?  Visit some newborn baby goats and snuggle them? OK! Bring on the Sunflower Farm...

Thursday brought another beautiful day, and off to the beach we went.  We are so lucky to live near the ocean.  I can't imagine having it any other way.  Our beach of choice? Reid State Park. Windy, sparkly, and chilly, but we found shells, climbed rocks, and enjoyed the sunshine.

Friday, Daddy was off with us, it was sorta crummy out, so we did some errands, and then went to see The Jungle Book. It was so good! A few scary moments, and for some oddball reason I cried through most of it, but it was a sweet story about enduring friendship, strength and bravery.

Saturday, another cloudy, chilly day, but we made the most of it and brought Maddy to the playground for her first try at swings. Unsure at first, but then she warmed up to the idea, especially with you pushing her.

And on today, this last day of vacation, it was sunny, warm(ish!), and perfect for a family hike. Off to Harpswell for our favorite cliff walk.  It was a long hike, we got a little lost (my fault!) and ended up going way out of our way...like 1 mile or more out of the way...but you were a total trooper, we saw some fun fairy houses, and the view at the top makes it worth it every time.

When we finally made it back to the car (ok, Daddy had to run ahead and get the car to pick us up. Yeah, we strayed waaaaaaaaaaaay far) we had lunch, went home, and everyone conked out. First time that's ever happened.

And now it's Sunday night, back to school, back to work tomorrow for all.  What a lovely few days, spent together, doing simple but fun things, and making memories.

So much more to catch up on before you turn 6 in a couple weeks (!!). And then...soon the end of kindergarten and summer awaits!
